Great advertising or cocky approach by Nike? First off, I loved the clip, the guys at Big Lazy Robot have done a fantastic job with the CGI and production. ‘Exploit Yourself’ is the theme behind the advertisement, ultimately expressed as pushing yourself to the limit just for kicks, which is fine. I get that.
But in my opinion, this is a pointless advertisement from a business point of view from Nike. It’s simply a stylish and captivating CGI clip that looks like it would fit in well in a movie like I-robot or Terminator. I mean even if you hate Nike you would enjoy the ad. But this is my point. There is barely any branding in it until the final splash screens. This to me is Nike being cocky, saying “we don’t even need to advertise our products anymore for you to buy them. Rather we can just make some flashy vid and put our logo on it and you will come flooding towards our product.” I mean look at the ad, there couldn’t have been more than 2-3 seconds of the shoe displayed in full for a 50 second advertisement.
But that is my rant for the morning. Don’t get me wrong, I thought the ad was great, but Nike’s motives are still not clear to me!
